So gas prices soar, and you say it is meaningless since it is volitile energy that will come back down. Then when gas prices come back down you celebrate that the economy is doing so well?

It must be nice to look at just one side of the issue at all times and ignore the other side.

I on the other hand didn't complain when it went up and I'm not celebrating it when it comes down. Volitile things do that. They are volitile. Gas is back up 10% since November here. Does that mean that the economy muct have done horribly when the December numbers come out? No. Not at all. It is just a sign that energy prices are fluctuating. To celebrate or to complain on either swing is silly.

Ok. BLS numbers Let me convert those to percentages:

Dec 2000 - Dec 2001: 1.6% CPI growth
Dec 2001 - Dec 2002: 2.4% CPI growth
Dec 2002 - Dec 2003: 1.9% CPI growth
Dec 2003 - Dec 2004: 3.3% CPI growth

Nov 2004 - Nov 2005: 3.5% CPI growth (December numbers aren't out yet since Dec. isn't over yet).

No, inflation is not at all high. But it isn't low either. If the 3.5% number holds up, it'll be the highest inflation since 1990.

I don't like seeing gas prices go down...
The first world nations have shown they can sustain growth with the higher prices and with small incriments in price a natural progression (through free markets) will make alternate fuels more attractive and give more incentive to conserve.

Oh well, gas prices will rise again...no worries.

Its posts like these that make me realize that some people are not in this forum for debate but to spew propaganda. It is of little wonder that the country is so polarized when one side will just ignore facts and spin everything their way.
In the midst of 5 years of unbelievably stunted growth, 5 years of an unbelievably stagnant stock market, 5 years of people losing good jobs for bad ones, etc propagandists will try and spew their garbage.
This reminds me of the post after post I used to read about how home ownership is at an all time high. When, guess what, except for the Great Depression home ownership is ALWAYS at an all time high. Because guess what? The population keeps growing. So to take credit for more people is all the propaganda spewers are doing.
Just like taking credit because gas prices which had risen a record level fell down in a month, not back to what they were before the increase, but partway down.
The real story is that consumer prices didn't drop more. And that some idiot (and I use that term in case the poster didn't mean to spew propaganda but is just not smart) thinks that manufacturing growth increasing the month before Christmas is anything but the norm.

I love it. The right LOVES to toss out the numbers including the cost of energy whenever gas drops. They do the exact opposite when the energy costs increase. Beautiful.

CPI is increasing consistently without the volatile food and energy components and this is but a blip in the gas prices. Gas has risen right back up and oil is over $60/bbl again so this massive drop is but a statistical anomaly.

The consumer price index, a widely followed measure of inflation, fell 0.6 percent in November -- the largest drop since July 1949 -- primarily because of an 8 percent drop in energy costs, the Labor Department said.

Those price hikes helped push the so-called core-CPI, which excludes energy and food costs, up 0.2 percent last month.

Where is this mythical 0.9% number coming from? And will you respond to my post above. It looks like for the year, we will have the highest inflation in 15 years. Heck, if CPI stays at 197.6 for Dec, we'll be at 3.8% inflation for the year.

Yeah, that's something that gets me pissed off about liberals. They measure everything by what's NOT going right instead of what is...and being happy about good news in the economy actually helps the economy. There's a difference between realistic constructive criticism and being down-right pessimistic.

For the record, I think our economy has recovered nicely from the huge downfall right after September 11th.

The vast majority of economists will say our economy is doing great.

Washington Times...I'm 100% sure it said .9% this morning. It said they predicted a .6% decline in november, and it turned out to be .9%.

So now instead of $2.69+ for gas, it's $2.29 (of course it was $1.69 last year). Never mind heating costs are going through the roof as well as everything else (which you neglected to mention in your little CJ...gee what a surprise) while jobs are going out the window left and right and those that are keeping theirs are getting jack for increases compared to inflation.

But yeah, look at that economy go! I'm sure those people working three jobs to keep a roof over their head are sure glad to hear it! :roll:
