Consultation on 2500k OC on Stock Voltage

First time SB overclocker here...

Here is the OC I would like to have on my Dad's new PC:

Turbo 1 Core - 40x
Turbo 2 Core - 38x
Turbo 3 Core - 36x

Non Turbo - 34x

Is it reasonable to expect this on stock voltage in general (like my G0 or whatever later stepping of my Core 2 Quad was know for 3ghz typically).

I don't need a guarantee, just wanted an idea if this was seen as a very modest OC or something that I might need to spend a lot of time on... which I would like to avoid. Generally its fast enough, but if you have "k" processor you are obligated to turn it up a bit, right?

Antec ECO 520W - Gigabyte Z68 UD2 Board (cheapo) for reference.

🙂

Thanks - Nat

What motherboard do you have? I have been running my 2500k at 44x on stock voltage since late June and it has been solid. See my MB below.

Yes, I disabled the turbo mode but allow it to run in the stepdown mode. Use an aftermarket cooler. The CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ with 2 fans (push-pull) works very well. I've booted into Windows at 4.8 and it runs most applications well at 4.6 BUT without much tweaking AND at stock voltage (i.e. lower temps) it will run 24/7/365 at 4400. Incredibly powerful chip and great MB. It runs the 5850s in Crossfire very well.

That should work; as with all overclocking, YMMV. I've been running a 2400 at 3.8 for single thread and 3.6 for all four since I got it on that board and it hasn't given me any trouble. Very quick for the money, too. Good luck.
