Construction guys: weird find in my soil, strange bricks - With Pics!

Replacing a dilapidated fence, moving the dirt around, instead of the usual rocks and pieces of concrete, etc. my hoe came up with what appears to be an unusual brick. The cross section is virtually identical to a current 2x4, it's a lot longer than the usual brick, it's 11 3/8" long. It's heavy! 4 lb. 12 oz. It's so dense at first I wondered if it was steel, partly because the geometry is so perfect. The sides are slick, the corners very square. I suppose it's not as dense as steel, but it seems very heavy. The color is reddish, there is a lot of black on it, as from a shiny black paint. Is this some kind of archeological artifact, a brick from 80 years ago or something? My house was built in 1910. I've been living here for decades, dug in the soil a lot (I garden), never seen anything like it.

Edit next morning:

Shot of 4 bricks all found in my back yard, from left:

The brick this thread's about!

Another weird brick I found in the yard, crazy geometry!

2 pretty ordinary bricks of different dimensions

cleared a shrub line in my backyard back a couple feet, pulled out one of those construction bifold barriers that had the light on top just poking to top of soil.

a piece of steel that size would weigh approximately 20lbs. This thread shows us all that you have absolutely no idea what a piece of steel should weigh... rofl.

bricks were all solid before the 1940's, they didn't start the 3 hole and the new firing techniques yet. It's probably just something used as a stepping stone or a landscape border.

If you look at it and it starts to glow, run away fast! Or it will suck your soul into the brick and you will be stuck in there until the next person finds the brick.

perhaps you can hum us a song about the brick.

Hum dee da de dumm dummmm. La dee daaaa da doooooo.

Something to get us closer to identifying it. This is the best way I think.

I don't know what it is but put it in your pocket and bury your smartphone. You're not using it anyway and it will be a fun "archaeological" find for some kid years from now.
