So Tom Coburn of Oklahoma just called for a constitutional convention. Since Mark Levin released his book "The Liberty Amendments" there's been buzz about a convention in conservative circles.

Frankly, I don't see why liberals would be necessarily against it. I've seen some of them saying it would be an opportunity to reverse SC rulings they dislike such as Citizens United.

I think it'd be good just because it'd have (hopefully) a jarring effect on an otherwise complacent citizenry. Furthermore, I don't like the idea of treating a piece of paper as sacred, nor a group of men, however visionary and brilliant, as demigods.

As a pinko-commie-socialist-libtard-proggie...I agree with this. ;)

I'll have to read up on the "who's" and "why's" before I vote for or against a convention.

Unless there's a public flogging of Congresspeople. I could get behind something like that...

EDIT: Not much meat to that article...are you actually going to ask me to *read*? I went to public school dammit...

Well shit. I was in it for the public flogging.

Right, because I think the current crop of Republicans could do anything but bad when they had a hand in rewriting the Constitution.

Wonder how many times they could write "god" or "Jesus" into the Constitution.

I heard that he proposed 11 but I only know what two are (couldn't find a concise list) and I agree with those two but they won't restore liberty.

Repealing the 17th Amendment doesn't give the States back their liberty because half the States can take away the liberty of the other half via the VP. The Fed was passed with the Senate elected by the States as were the 14th, 15th, and 16th Amendments.

The second one I know about was to limit the States only from impeding commerce which is better than we have now but it is far from perfect.

I do think he is on the right track about a constitutional convention rather than Congress, but secession is really a lot better.

I voted "no". We do not have a crop of politicians capable of conducting such an undertaking nor an electorate disciplined enough to watch over our politicians. From where we are now to where we would need to be to responsibly convene a convention would take decades of reform.

This is the direction I'm leaning as well...

There appears to be very little our esteemed elected officials *couldn't* do in a CC.

The 1st and the 4th would be gone, or modified to the point of "might as well be" gone. Hell, even the 2nd would be at risk.

I'd bet the end result would be an even more confusing mess than we have now.

My vote is *no*, but I'll maintain my flogging clause and hold out for a "Convention for Constitutional Clarification"...
