guys, i just can't think anymore. i'm exhusted from finals. This is going to be my last final and probably going to be one of the tougher ones :( The Constitution test. Yeah i know, you're probably thinking: psh that was easy. well apparently my AP us history teacher forgot that AP classes are "suppose" to end in May. Well have a 60 multiple choice portion, then two short response sections. i just need some help on the two short response sections.

1. Two terms: Separation of powers, federalism. Prove knowledge of the principles with 3 examples of each in US history.
2. Look for evidence of Founding Fathers being skeptical about democracy (limit role of majority)
i think i already have one for this one: electoral college. but could use a few more

I thank those in advance that do help me out :) Just one more day, then freedom!!!

EDIT: FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOM!!!!!

2. I would say both the electoral college and the role and greater power of the Senate.

Seperation of powers, Try impeachment of Bill Clinton, when the Supreme Court went over the election (2000) and how congress had to vote to Declare war on Iraq, the president couldnt just up and do it.

If you cant answer federalism, I'm not even sure I should help you.

2. The first government we created failed, it was unruly and didnt work. Some of them wanted to go back into cahoots with Britain. Some thought we should establish a monarchy just like Britain. Google these things to find your detailed answers. *electoral college is good one ^^^^ (You do know that your vote really doesnt directly translate to the president right?)

Funny how you say just one more day and then freedom.

I can try, but I never took AP US.

2. I think it was a conflict between Rhode Island and Virginia talking about representation in Congress, which is why they made a bicameral Congress. Rhode Island wanted equal representation, but Virginia wanted representation according to population. Both sides I think threatened to secede if they didn't get their way.

I hope that helps a bit.

The founding fathers also set up the Senate where the state legislatures voted on membership. The house has elections every 2 years, and their terms are staggered so that the mob can't do too much damage in any one election.

go to town on Google

1) SoP - Marbury v. Madison, Truman getting biatch-slapped when tried to privatize steel mills, line-item veto (Clinton v. NY), Schecter (sick chicken/delegation)
Federalism - Gibbons v. Ogden, Term Limits v. Thornton, Garcia v. San Antonio Metro

2) Only white, land-owning men allowed to vote. Senators appointed. Electoral college. Supremacy of federal law.

I think the original intent of the Senate was that they represented the states interests which is why each state has an identical number. Since they represent the states it made sense that they be appointed by the states. The states gave away an important power when they ratified the ammendment for an elected Senate.

so federalism is how the central government ultimately controls the states?

Separation of powers was meant as a way to limit the powers of our government. People were afraid that their gov't may one day try to grab too much power and the people would end up in the same situation they were in before. The separation of powers was meant to combat this by dividing up the functions of the gov't into 3 parts and each part would ONLY work within their limited area. Each would play an important part in the gov't, but none could function individually. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. It has been so long that each branch has worked little loopholes in so they can do pretty much whatever they want. The president can now fight a war without actually declaring war, Judges are now making laws, etc... Separation of powers was an awesome idea, but it was not implemented properly and pretty much doesn't exist anymore.
