Constant static noise from my speakers

I just built my first PC, amd64 3700 w/ MSI NF4 platinum MB
I have THX Certified ADA995 ALTEC Lansing speakers 5.1 setup. It came with my old Dell.

So basically, I get a static like noise from my speakers constantly...when my mouse moves, HD is active...I get a static noise.

I tried pluggin my speakers into the front audio headphone jacks, and the noise disappears...so I know it's not the speakers.

I even put it on mute, and the static sound persists.

Is it my onboard soundcard? Are the wires in my case interferring? Are my audio connections correct? Is my video card causing static? I have EVGA 6800GT. THanks

Most likely your onboard sound. It tends to pick up other noises from your mobo, which is very common. Don't worry about it unless it really bothers you, in which case you'll have to buy a soundcard.

hey, i'm sorry about triple posting. I just figured that I should put it in different categories cause it applies better? What is the rule for that?

The rule is to pick one forum and post there. In this case, Peripherals or tech support would have been the best choices. Just choose one so we don't get the same question 3 times alot of us look at more than one catagory of forums. No problem.

Look into a audigy or a M-audio depending on your needs

Do you have the side panel on? Did you install the port shield (thin, 6"-or-so-long, piece of metal with holes stamped in it for the motherboard connectors)?

Either of these things can cause EMI radiation that will effect electronic devices near the PC itself. I agree that the onboard sound will most likely be the problem, but it's worth checking these things before you find that your new card does the exact same thing because of a grounding issue
