I have a gigabyte 6v4x moptherboard (apollo pro chipset) with a slocket adapter(generic) and a 733 pIII flip chip. The computer will often hang at the windows clouds (the keyboard doesn't lock but it just stays on that screen permanently) or will I will get registry error messages. This will happen for a while until the registry error messages keep repeating and I can't boot. I have tried different types of ram, I ran the Ibm and seagate disk checkers on my hardrives I have also installed different win98 2d ed cds with different cdroms; so I am thinking it must either have something to do with my motherboard, the slocket adapter or the cache on my p3. I can't find in the bios where I can disable the cache on my p3 so I haven't been able to rule that out. Anyone knwo what might be happening? Is there any utility I can use to check if these are the problems. I really don't want to start blindly buying new parts because I know with my luck I will completely replace the computer three times and still have the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciatred.
