Constant drops of wireless network

I have a BEFW11S4 Linksys Wireless Router. It works well. I have two wireless adapters upstairs. But here comes the problem. After an undetermined amount of time, the wireless seems to stop working.. it's not like the connection goes down.. because on my hardwired PC downstairs connected right through the router, the internet works fine.

Anybody know why?

a litle bit of an update. it seems that the whole wireless connection goes down but there is still a detected wireless connection. Just the internet drops and all bytes being transferred slows to a halt. And it happens at the same time on both computers. Sometimes it'll run for an hour and a row then stop, and the only way I can fix it once it goes down is to go downstairs and unplug the router and the cable modem and replug it and then the internet connection comes back on but it then it drops again after an undetermined amount of time and it does this all day

is there anyway I can decrease interference or see the signal strength of the wireless network? I've tried NetStumbler but it doesn't detect my wireless game adapter (WGA11B).. is there another one that I could use?

Netstumbler needs to be installed on a computer with Wireless client.

It seems that you have an old 802.11b system.

Could be that it is time to upgarde.

:sun:

In general, to debug Unstable Wireless connection you need a point of reference; otherwise it is hard to know whether it is a Hardware problem, a distance problem, or both.

Start with only one Wireless client unit On, put this 3' away from the Source, switch the security Off, and make sure that the SSID Broadcast is On.

Do not keep WZC and the original Brand's Wireless Utility active at the same time.

Netstumbler detects Wireless Sources. I.e. Wireless Routers or Access Points; it has nothing to do with other Wireless Client.

When you run Netstumbler it would show you the Wireless sources that are available in your environment their strength and transmission?s channels.

might be good know to how you have your network setup,

is your wireless client on one end of the house while the router is on the other end?
how many walls come between the devices?
are you using a wireless G or wireless B solution?
are you using the software that came with the wireless card or are you using windows wo administer the card?

if i have more questions i'll ask later.

Does your router have a log? If so, the log might shed some light on what's going on.
