seti, rc5, point was using govt property for his own gain and most likely against TOS agreement.

Simply brilliant to register them under his own name in case he won lmao.

then a bunch of guys who post here shout-down that it's a "tinfoil hat conspiracy theory" because thr info is alarmingly discrepant to the "orthodox" story that's been sold as the "truth."

So you, the individual, have to yield to the climate of opinion those guys create here, or stand against it. Probably human psychology works to nudge people toward joining the herd.

Sigh... that is not proof nor truth. If you squeeze an accordian, what happens to the air inside it? Same thing happened here.

And please, the irony in your last paragraph is more than I can stand. You're arguing against the scientific facts like a religious-driven creationist, and then accusing the adherents of science of having a herd mentality. WTF? Really... WTF..

There is a mental disease where you think the world is out to get you.

Just put all the conspiracy theorists in that box.

I was sitting in jail chained up to convicted murderers facing 120 yrs over a screensaver, must be that "conspiracy theorists" box you are refering to.

What happened..?

PS, welcome back dave.

I am guessing he is talking about his brilliant plan to install SETI on govt computers while he worked for the govt.

Actually, it was RC5 on hundreds of computers while he was an admin for the state of Georgia education system, while RSA still had the $10k award for anyone who could break the code, and with all the "screensavers" registered in his name in case any one of them won.

So while the charges were overblown no doubt, he was still stealing government property for his own use and profit.

Excuse me. If you're going to quote nonsense at least get it right.

It was $1,000 not a $10,000.

Also everyone in not only AT's DC forum said if they won they would donate the $1,000.

No, all of the RSA secret-key challenges were $10k Text

Not that the actual amount of the prize is relevant to the issue any more than your intention to donate said prize.

Look, Dave, I took part in distributed back then and fully supported you at that time. But I don't think I'm alone here is saying that your refusal to recognize your own fault in what happened has long long ago burned up any good will that you might have otherwise had.
Can you just -- for one fscking moment -- imagine how differently things might have turned out if you had gotten permission first?

It wasn't SETI.

It was RSA RC5, you know the little encryption lock you see on the lower right of your browser screen when you are on a secure website.

If it wasn't for that program there would be no "secure Internets".

It is used by everyone including yourselves and the Government.

How's that for a "Conspiracy"?

Yeah, RC5 is the only encryption algorithm out there and otherwise there'd be no secure connections on the Internet. And the U.S. government standard AES didn't even end up using it (or its successor, RC6), but chose Rijndael instead.

You make it sound like you were involved in some sort of technical public service role to help mankind when you can't even get the basic information right.

Interesting since for two years I was the one that put ALL software on all the machines since I was the one in charge of them.

Also interesting that the RC5 program was running for a year and half with no issue until a yahoo comes along trying to make a name for himself.

Explain how anything would be different if you were in charge as I was.

Aren;t you an administrator?

Wikipedia is not always 100% correct.
