I don't entirely buy that. It's overselling AI and what it can do. And in any case, the US (and the West generally) is _already_ an oligarchy. AI may be an incremental part of the process, as it may end up automating a few more jobs than those that have already gone, and thus continuing an ongoing process of concentration of wealth and power, but I don't believe it's some sort of final game-changer.
 
If you were the type of person who could believe that Nazi leadership near the end of WWII hatched a long term contingency plan should they be defeated—and that said plan involved slowly infiltrating the upper echelons of power in Allied countries (post-war US, EU, Israel, Russia) and grooming native born, native speaking Judeo-Christian fascists over a period of 100 years, and that the culmination of said effort would be to take power and destroy the Allies from within, could you come up with a better success story than the rise of Trump, Putin, Brexit and far-right parties fueled by anti-immigrant sentiment all over Europe?

I'm going to post this in this thread, but my fear is that within 90 days it may no longer be a "conspiracy theory" but actual fact.

Musk's "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) is not focused on government efficiency. It's true purpose is laying the groundwork for Trump and Musk's own Secret Police in DC. This Secret Police will be Trump's eyes and ears inside the federal bureaucracy.

Every federal employee going to work will be entering a surveillance state.

That is why they are taking over OPM and installing their own servers. That is why they are siphoning classified data at USAID. That is why they want unfettered access to all government email servers. USAID employees were the first to realize this, as hundreds were summarily fired for "working against Trump's DEI order" in order to continue implementing projects that were already funded and underway. They were being surveilled within the first 2 weeks.

Once this Secret Police is fully established, when do they start policing folks outside the federal government?

Did Elon Musk accelerate the demise of USAID *after* he learned they were investigating how Russia obtained thousands of Starlink terminals to use in the fight against Ukraine as part of their contract review process??

With USAID gone, does Musk essentially have cover to kill Ukraine’s access to Starlink (potentially coinciding with a major Russian offensive) and then blame it on USAID or a contract slip-up?

I think the blue states are getting a gift with "no more department of education".

Boon in disguise right here for us to majorly revamp and make state education systems better all around.

If done right.. it will serve blue states very well going forward but I have my doubts since politicians will always do the wrong thing.
