The problem with capitalism is that it allows for the wealthy and powerful to too easily corrupt the very government that is tasked with keeping them in check.

Suppose you from a socialist standpoint understood the nature of capitalism and simply tamed it and put it to use. I'd like to think that is what we're doing in ie. Scandinavia. You need a leech and even then from time to time a rabid dog will try to break free. Containment only works though if the general public from a democratic point of view share these beliefs.
Citizens United was your real shot at that imo.

I don’t think jumping in socialism with communism is appropriate. I agree with your points on communism but I don’t see how that applies to socialism as only certain industries are public, for the very reasons you point out.

That's one definition of the distinction between the two words, not everyone defines the difference the same way, though. I'm not convinced, anyway, that you can have a little bit of capitalism.

What this has to do with the previous posts? I have no idea.

It has nothing to do with them, I'm just following the thread title - these are my 'random thoughts' that nobody I know agrees with.

Most people I've ever known have been socialists. They all think I'm appallingly right-wing for my lack of faith.
I just don't have a lot of faith in capitalism either. Seems to me the far-left are correct about capitalism and the right are correct about socialism/communism, and that in fact nothing works (in the sense of being fair and sustainable) and the future is probably quite bleak.

This SHOULD work in principle: https://thecommonwealth.org/our-work/democracy-government-and-law

But it all depends on whether the right people are promoted into the right positions to actually do the right things.

Substance addiction can bring down planes.. maybe TSA needs to scan for substances in bodies before people get on planes..

Getting ondma to see what's going on is harder than getting these people to see a whale on their whale seeing trip..

Ray Tracing is a sales gimmick designed to extract $$$ from idiots just like 3d.

I don't know a single person personally who actually uses RT and takes the fps hit!

I saw the mining craze and concluded that they werent coming down anytime soon and went from a 1080ti to a 3080ti .. cost a small car.

I wished I had bought a 1080ti for $720 or something but I went by Hardware Unboxed cost per frame and the 1070 was the best.

So I bought the 1070 but after 2.5 years it started artifacting.. thankfully still under EVGA warranty so they sent me the 1080 after the RMA.

1 thing I learned from that ordeal is.. never get a non igpu cpu. I was able to use my computer thankfully with a GT210 from back in the day after I found an old monitor that took a vga port.

Oh I've been there; shit I got a spare card lying around? But really the whole trouble shooting process is so much easier with an igp cause might not be the gpu after all. I've had two total system failures in my time and both were PSU related.

He probably got rid of it before it died. Or maybe it's resting somewhere as a spare now.

Reminds me of a 560Ti I once bought second hand off ebay..

Worked fine for 4 months and then one day the screen just froze and skewed like someone had spilled water on a painting.

Never bought 2nd hand electronics after that..

Maybe it was mining related though I think 560TI was pre mining craze?

Funny thing, I used to own a 560 Ti! Bought it specifically with Nvidia 3D Vision (version 1.0) so I could experience 3D but turns out, I'm one of the few unlucky people who cannot see active 3D (I can see passive 3D effects only when something appears to poke out of the screen) so that was a total waste of money. Exchanged the 560 Ti + Core 2 Quad Q9400 PC + NIB EVGA 850W PSU for almost 50 new Blurays when the latest CPU was I think Core 9th gen. Still have a 9600 GT though.

Your used 560 Ti must've been overclocked a lot because in those days, overclocking cards instead of underclocking was a lot more common to gain maybe 5 more fps. I myself used to overclock my used ASUS Geforce 3 Ti 200 to make Doom 3 playable with a Coppermine Celeron 700 MHz overclocked to 1.05 GHz on a 440BX mobo.

Oh it was overclocked for years and spent much of that time mining eth. It was frankly miraculous it lasted the several years it did. Eventually started artifacting so it went to the great trash bin in the sky.
Missed bitcoin mining. Missed ETH mining. And most likely, I will miss the AI craze (as in do nothing to benefit from it).

I wonder what that says about me.

It's the American voters who are to blame for:

Fall of Saigon — USA pulled out of Vietnam in 1975
Fall of Kabul — USA pulled out of Afghanistan in 2021
Fall of Kiev — USA pulling out of Ukraine in ... 2025 perhaps?

Can Taiwan honestly be defended with voters as fickle as this?

What was the US interest in staying in Vietnam or Afghanistan one day longer? How many more Americans, Vietnamese, and Afghans would you have liked to have died to support those interests?
