I know this has been going on for ages and AT obviously has a different demographic but I must pop the question:
Which do you like better, PCs or gaming consoles?
Also, here are my two cents to prevent too much of a misguided flame war. Personally, buying a console based on it's hardware is foolish. You buy consoles based on the games and you buy PCs based on the hardware.

Consoles are more physically social, close proximity interaction devices that require less attention than gaming PCs.
Consoles focus on instant gratification and local proxity social interaction. Meaning, Mario Party an DDR is for group play in the same room. PC MMORPGS do the same thing but they expect more time invested and tend to be less group friendly, as far as entertaining people in the same room while they wait their turn.
To be offensive, geeks and people who don't interact well in group environs and who want to escape from reality for extended amounts of time play PC games. Conversely, more socially adept and people who consider gaming less a priority but still want to enjoy a quality game will get a console.
Additionally, consoles SHOULDN'T be as scrutinized as much as pcs based on their hardware. Consoles aren't typically marketed to people who care that much about the specific hardware and capabilities. PCs are. Additionally, consoles are cheaper and require a minimal investment to maintain, ie. PS2 = 149 + $30 game (used) whereas PC = $1000+ + $40 game, with $200-300 upgrade per 18 mths.
These aren't apples and oranges. They are apples (PCs) and fruit rollups (consoles).
