Console Sound Setup

I hope I'm posting this in the right section as it does have to do with my console. I'm trying to run digital sound from my PS3/Xbox 360 into my sound card so I can play the sound through my speakers. I've been told something about decoding on a card or something. Not sure about these things.

I didn't know XBox 360 had an optical out? But yeah, you should be able to do a optical passthrough with your X-FI (provided it supports DTS Decoding) What Creative sound car ddo you have?

The 360 has has digital audio out, if you have the HDMI Audio cable or Component Audio cable.

Thats not an optical out though 🙂, and component audio cables isn't digital audio.

Yes the tree-sidee has Optical out.

I used to run my 360 through my Xfi platinum like that.. Its drive bay had a SPDIF optical input.. ( yes the 360 does have optical out, it always has.. THe only variance is the new HDMI units, If you use HDMI you may need an extra dongle.. Last check elite comes with, others do not..)

It worked farily well, except it was annoying to need the PC on + diddle around with inputs and settings every time I wanted to play xbox.

I run all my audio to my tv, then go from a digital out (toslink) on the tv to a digital in (toslink) on my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum.

Works fine for me.

And of course 360 has digital out.

Yes it is - both the "360 HDMI Audio cable" and "360 Component Audio cable" have digital optical out.
