They want someone on the other side of the plant, about 50-100 feet away to be able to enter data, w/o walking so far away from their job. Since it's only a matter of using the computer for about 2 minutes at a time, they figured it would be better to share the computer than build another. i think their Switch is full right now, so they'd have to expand that, plus get a computer, plus by an OS, plus by another liscence on their database program. If they can just share the console they only have to buy that, another kb and another mouse.
another question.... let's say they could find an old cheapy computer, and just split one port on the switch using say a 4 port switch... Is their a VNC program available on Linux that would allow control of a win98 PC? This would at least save them the price of a 2nd OS and 2nd database liscence (i think they are using access).
