Console Section?

I know that adding certain sections to the forums is like pulling teeth, but I just see so many threads turn into console discussions and - while I don't think it's bad, I actually learn a lot about the consoles because of that - it does seem to show that a lot of users have a good amount of experience with PC's and game consoles and like to engage in conversation about both of them frequently.

If one other section already holds this unofficial status (i.e. General Hardware?, Peripherals?, Video?, Software - Applications?, etc.) then sorry for the suggestion. I tend to see conversations pop up about these things just about everywhere and just thought that it might be a good idea to have a section devoted for it. That or at least maybe others could get an idea as to where those kinds of conversations would best be discussed.

Consoles, mp3 players, TVs, amps, receivers, loudspeakers, cell phones and other consumer electronics always end up in Off-Topic. There are multiple threads with 1000s of posts for the Wii, X360, PS3 etc. in Off-topic and were stickied while they were brand-spanking new.

But yes, it would be nice if the whole "My $400 Xbox 360 > your endless cycle of PC upgrades, you st00pid schmucks" would stop. Those things always move vastly off-topic.

And yeah, AT doesn't believe in starting new sub-forums...or deleting old redundant ones.

The Technical Support forum is already covered in OS/Software.
Peripherals belongs in General Hardware.
CPU/Processors & Overclocking and Motherboards might as well be one large forum because the same questions get asked - 'Is this RAM compatible?' 'What is the max FSB for this motherboard and will it be enough for my E6300?' 'Is my OC being limited by my CPU/Motherboard/RAM' etc.

Thanks for the input theprodigalrebel. Even though the consoles aren't brand spanking new anymore, there is still a lot of conversation about them, especially as prices drop and more versions of them emerge. (i.e. A black Xbox 360 - don't remember the official name)

At the very least, I think it'd be a decent idea to make some constant stickies in an already existent sub-forum. Would that be more realistic?

You'll get a console forum before that will happen.

We don't have a programming forum yet, and programming is closer to computers then consoles ever were. Good luck.

I have to say I would like to see all things console go in one place. As it stands I see it in about 4 different places (OT, GH, Software, and even Video).

It would be nice to have the console stuff segregated to one spot so those of use who could not care less about it, could easily avoid it. :p

Due to sheer volume of console-related posts I think it warrants it even more than programming, though I doubt either will happen anytime soon.

eventually we will see 'Games' split off from 'SW' ...

i guess consoles could fit under 'games' ...
--there aren't usually console HW problems ... or BluRay discussions ...

consoles are primarily for playing games
--anything else would be posted in video or HW

I'd like to see this as well, or even just a seperate games forum.

Even though nested quoting is frowned upon, I am just at the 3 nest maximum and IT'S BLOODY REQUIRED AS THIS CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS.

Not that it is frustrating or anything...

I'd use a programming forum quite a bit, but as it stands most of my threads about it have been lost in the mess of other crap. Really, give it a try. If it doesn't work out, delete it or take it off the visible list. It's not hard from an admin stand point...well, not if you use a decent forum like SMF.

Fusetalk... bleh.

with as many mods that are available for the 360 (that is all i have so not famiilar with other console mods) it could have its own forum, but sadly i think that forum would be turned into a cat fight from all the fanboys. too bad

I wish there was a forum to discuss video gaming-related stuff, perhaps there are some forums for that, but they haven't gotten tons of video gaming topics recently.
