Console Price Drop? :D

Hey all of you web surfers. Just thought I'd take a breather from my normal EGM duties to drop you a line about something I recently caught wind of. It's so big it couldn't wait for the magazine: console price drops. That's right, folks...my Q-spies are telling me that all three hardware platforms may see price drops for this holiday season. PS2 and Xbox are said to drop to $150 and GameCube will fall to a mere $100. Yes folks, 100 bucks -- at that price, why not pick up a few?
Nothing's confirmed just yet, but with Thanksgiving right around the corner, there's a good chance these price drops will happen within the next week or so.

Sounds like a crock to me....

No price-cut for PS2

Sony today moved to quash speculation that they are planning to cut the price of the PS2 in the run-up to Christmas. The rumours were beginning to circle owing to the increased success of the Xbox, thanks to aggressive marketing/price-cutting and some good games-bundles. Sony appear confident that their superior selection of titles and brand-awareness will still give them the edge.

"We are very content with the sales of PlayStation 2 in Europe following our price reduction at the end of August this year," said David Reeves, EVP Sales and Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "This Christmas sees a phenomenal line-up of PlayStation games, from Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, to The Getaway, GTA Vice City, This is Football 2003, Formula 1 2002 and WRC II Extreme. There has never been a better time to be a PlayStation gamer."

If Gamecube drops to $100 I will definitely pick one up.

I heard the same thing from other sources. But what I heard, this wasn't going to happen until after the season. Which didn't make much sense from a marketing standpoint, but hey, let's hope it's sooner rather than later. I can get my bro to buy a GCN for me. ;-)
