OK so i have 5 Xylan Omnistack 4024c's

3 of them work LIKE A CHARM, perfect in all ways, well in the unmanaged ways at least(factory default). The other 2 are a bit if'y and have some vlan's setup on them so i want to factory reset them, i found out how to do it::

To reset an OmniStack to factory defaults - you'll need to connect via a console serial cable, then:
> hit any key when prompted by boot process immediately after
power-up to get to boot/diagnostic menu
> enter 'c'<return> (don't enter the quote marks!)
> enter <return> until line displays: "Boot Flags :0xb" then
enter '0x1000'<return> at end of line
> enter <return> until back at the "[Boot]:" prompt
> enter '@'<return> to boot
> system is now reset to factory defaults

> Login as 'admin', initial password 'switch'
> enter 'pw admin', to set a more suitable password

but the problem is, when i go to "hit any key to interrupt" the auto-boot process it wont let me, i cant seem to interrupt it. ive tried many terminal programs. the problem that i think it is, is that my serial port isnt sending, only receiving....

any help at all on how to fix this? or help in console...

im tryin to do this on a Win box, i have a copy of knoppix and back track around if that helps...

My money is on an incorrectly pinned RS232 cable or some flow control funk -- this is not uncommon. First try to force hardware flow control. If that doesn't work, purchase another cable and make sure it's pinned out correctly on the RTS/CTS and DTR/DSR pins.

Good luck.

Null modem adapter: probably won't help. You might try the other cable though I recommend you just take the switch and a laptop into a store and test cables until it works. ;) Another good spot to find them is in a Co-Lo if you have one close by. Almost always there is a box at/near the netops desk, or you can ask them if they have some spares you can examine/borrow/test, has worked for me in the past anyway.

I have a similar problem. My 4024c has a messed up config and i need to factory reset it.
trouble is after a brief boot the text turns to garble.

This is what i get

Flash file system check in progress...
Checking root file system... OK
Performing file consistency check...
Done.

FFS Id:1d5 Sectors:16 Size:4194304
ÒjÂêªâÂÂâj© NÓWÂ?

How do i break it, What is the combo to break. i have tried ctrl-(every character) esc the break key. none worked

The cable is new, so i don't think it's that.
I need to get into the switch, Please help it's driving me nuts.

Thanks

I had a similar problem, and set the serial access speed to 19.2 and was able to log in.
