Console Expansion Ports...

Modeps

Lifer
after posting in another thread about the firewire port on the ps2, Ive noticed that every system since nintendo (the original) has had an "expansion" port for additional hardware, yet the only one that I can really think of that utilized it, was the Genesis (segaCD)... why even bother including them if they have no real purpose in the long run? delusions of granduer? plans that fell through (64DD)? just seems silly to engineer it in and ultimately cost more money... Playstation's later models did away with the expansion port... hmm... just my thoughts...

You could put more RAM in the N64, many games utilized this. You're right, though, there haven;t been many real "expansions" for console gaming here in the US.

weird... oh well... that ram expansion was interesting... not sure if it really was necesarry, but the one on the bottom of the 64 was never used...
