I use storagereview for comparing drives. They have comparative stats on all the currently available disks, including these two. (For older drives & optical drives you can get benchmarks from their old testbed.)

Kevin, thanks a lot. When I saw the word Maxtor on my drive, I was about to throw it against the wall, but now that I read the review, they prefer the D740X to all competitors except for the WD1000JB. Anybody want a brand-new 800BB?

I didn't want to take a chance and get a non-wd drive since I wanted to raid it with my existing WD 80 GB, so I ordered the OEM WD800BB drive dell had listed which came out to $109 shipped

Well, they shipped me the wrong drive, instead of the WD800BB they shiped me a WD1200JB :Q

Thats the 120GB model with the 8MB cache :D And it's the OEM with the 3 year WD warranty.

Guess I won't be using Raid for now, besides this drive is about the same speed as a pair of 80 GB WD's combined anyways.
