Considering unlocking my iPhones and going to T-mobile...

I switched to straight talk and will never look back... I'm using an iPhone 4 on it and it's great. I get the same coverage and speed as I did with AT&T on contract.

You can get unlimited service for $25 a month if you watch for sales (3 month unlimited plus free Phone, sell the phone for $35 on eBay and boom... Cheap!)

All you people with straight talk: How does it compare to ATT on contract? Some people on other forums say that it's a lot slower, while others say it's just as good.

My iPhone does 4-5 Mbps... I haven't been on ATT contract in a while or with a 3G phone so I can't compare, but I can't imagine it being any better. People on other forums say they get 7-9 Mbps with other phones. I don't think they throttle people. They might reduce your priority during peak times, but I don't know about that.

Straight talk's data runs through a proxy server in Chicago so that can increase ping times and cause slight data slowdowns. So far for me I get the same speeds as I did with AT&T (anywhere from 1.5mbps to 5mbps down)

Personally I don't know why anyone would stay in contract when the alternatives are just as good at such a great price.

Data is not unlimited but if you are reasonable with it you can use 2gb's for sure and maybe more, you just have to make sure not to use too much per day (they base usage off of daily and monthly use.)

Stay under 150mb's of data per day (if you can) and you shouldn't have a problem. Occasionally going over by a bit shouldn't be a problem but don't expect to use 500mb's in a day and not get your data cut off.

I'm currently using my unlocked 3gs as an ATT GoPhone. I alternate paying $25 a month for 500mb and $15 for 100mb of data. I think I might have to think about switching to Straight Talk...

Could I port my gophone number or does that only work for contract phone numbers?
