Considering getting Neverwinter nights and the expansion for it, have questions.

As the title says, I am considering getting NWN and the SOU expansion. But I have a few questions, mainly about the expansion. I know it ads like an extra 20 hour chapter to the game, but if you install both the game and the expansion at the same time, can you still get the benifits of the expansion in the regular games chapters. For instance will I be able to go towards one of the prestige classes in the original game, even though they are from the expansion? Or is the expansion just like an add on where you have to create a new character to play it?

Also what is the Gold box edition. I am looking for info about it online, but it doesn't really say what it contains, does it have both NWN and the expansion or what?

worked like what, I gave to options. Are you saying it worked like you could go prestige even in the original game chapters?

Also can I just get NWN and try it out, then later add the expansion, and yet still continue on with my original character eventually going to a prestige class?

Or better yet, since I have little D&D experience, should i get the start guide or something, to help me get back into it?

Yes, I believe this is possible.
I have NWN (but not the expansion) and one of the patches added the prestige classes to my create-a-character screen (you just can't select them if you haven't installed the expansion).

Therefore, it would certainly seem you could use the prestige classes in the original campaign. I would also assume you could multiclass to them with an existing character (don't see why you couldn't).

Cool, I think i will pick up just the main game for now, to make sure I like it, then add in the expansion later if I do. Can anyone who has the game tell me how good the manual is. As I said I have some but not much D&D experience and that was 5 years ago, so I am out of the loop, is the manual good enough to explain it to me, to get me back in the game?

I just saw this thread. I was considering buying the expansion pack as well. I loved the original, and played it to death (until the play disk got scratched and had trouble being recognized). Is the expansion pack worth buying?

I'm sure you could get Bioware (or whoever) to send you another disc. I had that happen to Diablo2 play disc. I think it should be a mandatory law that companies provide replacement discs (this would apply to games, dvd movies, music cds, etc) on the request of the consumer for a nominal fee once they have provided the original with scratches etc.

Most companies do have a policy in place (I've paid $5 in the past for it though). I could still get in, it just took 5 tries or so. I was thinking maybe if I buy the expansion it might require the expansion CD instead - anyone know?
