Considering getting a DVD/VCR combo, which ones are good?

I currently have 1 VCR, 1PS2 which is my main DVD player, and 1 old crappy apex DVD player which only works after a little fidgeting with it.

I want another VCR so I can watch VCR tapes upstairs or down, and I want a regular DVD player as opposed to my PS2 and in case that Apex dies. Just looking for any recommendations, or any opinions.

Well, if one part breaks, you're stuck with a 1/2 broken unit. Plus, in my experience two seperates are cheaper than a combo unit. G'luck.

Combo unit's 'generally' 'suck' I would stay away from them.

You can get a pretty cheap vcr and dvd separate now a days anyway.

Agreed.

A you can go to these cheap electronic liquidators, and pick up a new VCR for $30 and and a bottom end dvd player for around $45

Well I don't want bottom of the barrel crap, like this freakin apex. I will likely go with seperates. One reason iw as considering a combo is that I have a 10% off coupon for Circuit city for any DVD player over 80.00 bucks, theres only like 1 that fits that categpry thats not a combo. But it also applies to VCR's of any price. But they don't have a very nice selection fo VCR's or DVD players, at least online. I will probablly buy seperates somewhere else.

But actually I was quite surprised my sons new InteracTV game actually had a code that worked with my PS2, thats like the first thing I have ever seen have a code that works with the PS2. I so bad want to get a Philips play anything DVP642, but I would want that downstairs with my main TV and home theater setup, so it would be down there with my PS2. But then if that apex upstairs ever dies, then I am in trouble since I would have 2 DVD players downstairs and none upstairs.

liteon dvd recorders are pretty decent..and cheap. i'm not sure whats the point of combining the two though... unless the price is compelling that is.

My Best Buy has the Allegro Combo DVD/VCR for $59 (after $20 rebate). It's made by LG/Zenith and the Goldstar version I have is pretty decent.

I've had the samsung dvd/vhs combo unit for 9 months or so and it's worked pretty good so far.

Ya I was going to recommend the samsung. The Panasonic is a nice unit but it's noisey. The Sony is nice, but it's overpriced.

We have a Panasonic combo DVD/VCR which cost $89 at CostCo B&M last year.

Almost 1.5 years later it's still working strong, no issues at all.
