I've got a 61" Sony 4:3 SD set now (CRT/projection) and it's on for all freaking day typically.

I want a HD setup, have OTA HD (about 10 decent channels) and am a movie buff, am a pretty active Blockbuster online customer that still has the in store/free rental account (when that goes away, I'm going to Netflix)

Anywho, the Sony has pretty bad burn in, and I suspect that a plasma would get burned in pretty quickly under my use, and frankly both LCD & plasma are too expensive for the size I want (no smaller than another 61")

Also the plasma & the LCD's are pretty bad energy hogs, and with the amount of time I leave my tv on, that makes a bit of difference... The Samsung uses LED's which is supposed to be more efficient/longer life.

Don't like DLP because of the bulb issue, I'd go through 1 a year I suspect.

The Samsung has good reviews, reasonably priced and seems to meet my size, operating cost, burn in resistance, etc...

Opinions or flaws in my logic? (Aside from being a tool who likes to leave the TV on all day?)

Model I'm talking about

Eh, TBH I would wait until the 2008 models come out to work out some of the quirks the 2007 models have.
Those being:
Purplish halos
Blotchy screen
Slight green push
and HDMI audio pass through problems.

I'm confused...someone help me out. You don't like DLP but you linked to a DLP. Although it says LED engine, what does that mean?

It uses LED's instead of HID bulbs. They calculate an 80K hour bulb life.

I thought it was 20K as opposed to 5-8K seen by regular bulbs.

ok but they still have the problems DLP has with regards to viewing angle and black levels?

Viewing angles are still an issue (although not with me), but I don't think black levels are as much of an issue as with the DLP technology.

Just read Samsung tells the tech they estimate a 30K hour bulb life.

Samsung DLP 30K hour bulb life that is nice, but they have bad geometry

In 2008 Sorny is replacing their projection tv's bulbs with lasers, wonder how long that will last in hour wise.

LCD none are true 1080p except static images....they turn down the res on fast screens..

Plasma burn in, and you said just like me, mine will be on 15-18 hrs a day. BUT in my doctors office he has a olvia(spelling?) plasma that is on 12 hrs min
but it only plays the HD news channels so no bars to burn in...looks great after 2 yrs.
Now I am sure if you put a meter on this it would show signs of wear but to my eyes it looks nice.
