Considering AMD 3400+ and ASUS K8N-E Deluxe

Hi everyone,

I figured I'd treat myself to an early Christmas present and upgrade my PC. I was thinking of getting the hardware listed below (after reading reviews at numerous sites like Tomshardware) and I'd like to get your opinions and/or suggestions about what I am considering getting.

Here it is:

PC is mainly used for gaming.
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Motherboard: ASUS K8N-E Deluxe (Chipset: NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb)
RAM: 2x Corsair 512MB PC3200 (transfered from my old PC)
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB (transfered from my old PC)

The total price of my upgrade is (after all taxes):
515.20 CAD / 432.590 USD
(that price is just for the CPU and motherboard)

Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

Asus is a good brand for motherboards. The 3400+ is just as fast as a socket 939 3500+. I think you've picked out good components and you won't have any problems. Keep in mind that the socket 754 line is coming to an end and you won't have much processor upgrade potential with that motherboard. If you're the type to upgrade the motherboard every time you upgrade the CPU then those choices look great! Congrats!

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback 🙂.

Yup, that's me! I don't think I've ever had more than 1 CPU in all the different motherboards I've been through.

instead of the Asus K8N, i'd get the DFI UT Lanparty with the NF250GB. It has a lot of features and oc's very nicely. Its only $99 on newegg!

He lives in Canada?

I am running a very similar system Rhain. I have a Soltek NF3-250Gb board and a 3400+ (1MB L2) along with 1GB of RAM. It's a very fast, very smooth system. You'll love it, excellent choice.

Oh yes, I'd also like to welcome you to AT forums.
