That was what I was interested in, I just can't tell the difference but I am thinking it's the Nuforce with the gold screws and stainless steel face-plate.

Definitely. This way there is sort of an 'insurance policy' to dispute if it isn't.

I've got an eye on one and am about to purchase it, i think. Can't remember if I asked this before but if I had a 2.1 speaker setup with a single jack it would work with the 2.1 satellite speakers, correct?

Yeah, it'll work fine. The speakers have an internal filter to send the low frequencies to the sub and the higher frequencies to the satellites.
