Considering a move from DirecTV to Comcast

I currently have Xfinity Blast for internet service and DirecTV for my television. I've received a bundle offer that will make it significantly cheaper if I get rid of DTV and switch over to Comcast for both net and tv. Used to care about Sunday Ticket but think Red Zone channel will be fine so that DTV exclusive benefit doesn't really matter to me anymore.

Do any of you have personal experience with the X1 system? Anyone with personal experience on both the X1 and DTV system? I know the DTV interface lags quite a bit so hoping the X1 is much better in that regard at least.

I called Comcast last night and confirmed the offer we received in the mail is legit. Plan to call DTV today just to see how close they can get to matching but just don't see how they will be able to. Never hurts to try.

One more time for the morning crew... anyone out there with the Xfinity X1 system? How do you like it?

Im getting rid of cable very shortly b/c Comcast sucks. My internet cuts out all the time, my cable service goes dark every now and then, not to mention it's ridiculously over priced.

Going to internet only, Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon Prime.

Went internet only after getting rid of DTV. Wasn't dissatisfied with their service, quite the opposite. I was impressed. The cost for cable/satellite just isn't worth it for me for how little I watch tv. Especially considering there is never anything on and I just wanted it for espn.

In my experience the satellite companies have a much better service than the cable providers. Only had limited experience with Comcast but wasn't impressed. This was about a heat ago. Don't know what DVR my friend had, but he switched to dish for the deals they had and is much more impressed. For what it's worth.

I usually base my decision on price if the content is close or equal.

I have Comcast for internet only. I get special offers all the time from them for deals that include various combinations of internet, TV and phone service.

In almost every case, once I read the fine print on the back of the mailer, I discover terms and conditions that make the deal much less attractive. I would strongly recommend you read the offer and the details very carefully before signing up.

The deal was 99.99 for 24 months. After discussing with the sales rep it would end up being 130ish (before tax) for 105 net, whatever marketing name is for 2nd largest channel tier, sports pack (red zone), hbo, x1 hd dvr for main tv, and hd on second tv. Pretty sweet deal.

With that said it's much easier on me to leave everything as is so planning to call directv tomorrow to see if they can get in the $75/mo ballpark for the same tv coverage. This would allow me to just stick with comcast for net and dtv for tv. Win/win.

Nice on the link ichi, I saw that earlier today. Hilarious and sad rolled into one.

What provider?

I tried Direct and Dish when I was a poor college student. They really sucked with S. Florida's storms.

I can't say my Comcast had high 9's uptime, but it's acceptable and rarely down (maybe two outages a year).

It's definitely WAY more expensive, but also much faster and reliable.

Gaming on satellite will get you killed often if you are playing high level, I don't game so much so that's not a factor anymore; but I will never go back to Satellite unless they change the tech.

I have Comcast with the X1 system. I have to say I like it. We use to have problems here but seems like Comcast did some improvements in my area so things are good now. The multiroom feature of the X1 is nice too.

I like my Comcast internet (even though I'm employed by a competitor). What I don't like is their fucking atrocious customer service, but that's well known.

I signed up for their 50 mbps service for $29.99 based on a special offer on their website, and it took about 10 days to change it from 25 mbps @ $65.99 to the package I ordered. The service has never gone down, and consistently tests at ~62 mbps. It goes up to full price after a year, which is when I'll call and try to talk them back down.

I'm happy with the move, just make sure you know exactly what you're signing up for. In addition, it's kind of important to make sure you're getting a quality installation. It may be hard for typical customers to make sure of this, but I had to question the subcontractor coming to my house and wanting to install my service on the shitty, old RG59 drop wire that barely made it out of the ground (he used two barrel connectors within a foot of each other). I think the bulk of customer issues are the shitty ass sub contractors they use.

I use the X1 system frequently (in customer's homes), and it seems pretty decent. The interfaces and menu responsiveness are better than almost anything I've used (the new DVR Uverse is using is snappier, but lacks in interface features/aesthetics). I'm not sure about DTV, but they do have the Sunday Ticket. I'm thinking of ditching my Uverse TV and trying X1 while I'm getting all these special offer bs emails.

IDK OP...it seems like a risky move. Are you seriously considering becoming a customer of the most hated corporation in America? People hate Comcast more than they hate Walmart. Even Microsoft is less hated than Comcast and Microsoft gave us Bob and Vista and Win8.
