considering a laptop

Hello all. I've never really been a laptop fan before but lately I've been considering getting one more and more. For school and for being able to work anywhere anytime.

The thing is I've really been turned off by what I've seen so far. None of the packages seem to suit all my needs. I'm looking to get a pretty cheap laptop. Not looking to spend more than 800$.

That's why I want to find a way to buy a laptop that will only have what I NEED and none of the stuff that may raise a cost but that I really don't care for.

For example, I don't need my laptop to be able to write CD/DVDs, just a standard dvd reader would do.

I want a big enough HD, like 60-80gb, 1gb of ram, a decent cpu.. I don't care for gaming on my laptop, it will be mostly to be able to work (programming) from anywhere in the house or out in a coffee shop or at the library.

a 15in screen and a wireless connection

also I don't want it to come with software.. no OS and no software package.. no restore CDs.. none of that crap.

where can I go to build a custom laptop like that ? And what do you guys recommend ?

thanks all

mwave.com has barebones, but it will be hard to make one cheaper than a Dell E1505 with the same features, or even stripped down like you want.
