Considering a cpu upgrade....

Being a cheapskate, I dont want to upgrade to an AthlonXP, new mobo, mem, etc at this time. What I can do is use my current Abit BF6 with a faster cpu. It currently is running a Plll 700E which overclocks to 965mhz stable.
The 1ghz Celeron apparently overclocks to 1.33 quite readily. Would replacing the Plll with the overclocked Celeron be a worthwhile improvement? Or would the smaller cache negate the mhz increase?? 😕

I agree with Blain, stay with what you have. If you you can overclock the celery to 1.3+gig it will give you a little better than what you have now, but not worth it.

I'd agree with the previous two, solely because I follow the rule that I only upgrade if I can double the real performance.

I agree with the previous 3 😀. Stick with what you have right now and save ur money for new mobo, ram, processor. This is the same debate that im having..... buy a new P3 1000 (which is obsolete) or for the same price go with new mobo, a t-bird lets say, and new DDR ram. Economically 2nd opion is cheaper, but quite wasteful since i already have a mobo and lots of ram.

If you end up getting the Celeron you may find out that its a dud and will not overclock very well.

Stick with what you've got and get a nice Athlon XP with new RAM and MOBO when you can afford it.

I agree also stick with what you have save some $$ then switch over to AMD and your upgrdes down the road will allways be cheaper than intel.

I disagree with what other people said.... No, just kidding, you know... Keep what you've got, r0tt3n1, or try to grab an AMD based secondhand system, with a duron and PC133, it is cheap. Personally I would keep the P!!!.

i tried to think of an original way to say it, and this is the best i could come up with , so here goes: ditto. 😉
