I think the larger point is that we have a pie of finite size. When one percent of the population eat the vast majority of the pie there is very little left for the other 99% to eat.

The authors explain that high levels of income inequality drag down growth because poor people struggle to pay for health care and education, which hurts society as a whole.

Who wrote that book? Cptn. Obvious?

Sometimes you need Cptn. Obvious to say something. It wont change anything for some people. We could all be living the 3rd world life of ultra rich and ultra poor and people would still talk about poor people being poor as a choice of life style.

If you want to cower in fear of the mean old poors who are going to lynch you be my guest, but do it hiding in your closet rather than hiding behind stupid economic policies that incent people to threaten violence to gain welfare concessions. That's the mark of an asshole who doesn't even have the balls to call the bluff of those threats. It didn't work during the Reign of Terror, it didn't work for the Romans and their "panem et circesen" and it won't work now.

So you think the removal of welfare and foodstamps would have a positive effect on our society as a whole while also substantially helping our federal budget?

Give it another decade, I predict welfare and food stamps and a middle class will cease to exist.

It's all downhill now.

No one is saying we should completely do away with all social welfare altogether. However there is absolutely nothing wrong with arguing about what the proper level of welfare spending is. There is no divine right to a given standard of living in this country although we have decided as a society that subsistence will be essentially guaranteed to all.

What I'm saying I have no respect for people who cite the specter of violence from the poor as a reason for supporting the expansion of the welfare state. Fearing that a poor person will lynch you if they don't get their food stamps is being a fucking coward. In a civilized society you need to uphold the civic values and giving the poor a free pass to break them just because you're envious of a rich guy is just about the worst possible thing you could do for them and the nation as a whole.

There is no 'fear of the poor' in this country other than becoming one of them or the horror of living near them if you have enough money to live somewhere 'better'. The poor are not out there saying "Feed and house us or die!", it's history that is telling us that. History tells us that having large numbers of your population poor and homeless will result in higher crime rates and possible societal destabilization. You and others like you think that large numbers of poor, starving homeless people is a problem that will magically solve itself.

To ignore history is like begging for it to repeat itself. You're asking for it.

There is no divine right to endless accumulation & concentration of wealth & power, either. It's anathema to Democracy and to the interests of the public. The People have the right & the obligation of economic self defense to prevent that when they're not totally propagandized in the fashion you exhibit.

Trickle down does work. Look at the largely growing Chinese middle class.

oh wait, you meant American workers, haha
maybe they can get a job as a Valet, gas station attendant etc etc cuz that Bentley isn't cheap to run
China, is a lot freer than we are today. Unbridled Capitalism masking as Communism. ;)

What should be obvious to the posters in this thread, is that once you start regulating markets, once Government, is involved, all theories of "the economic man," etc. go out the window. So, trickle down economics, may have been right then... today, Government has grown and expanded to enourmous portions, and it is very hard for business to grow. They are taxed and regulated to death. Large business is incorporated in the system and basically become a part of Government.

We are devolving, declining, everthing going to feed the enormous, massive, federal government. There are fewer and fewer opportunities for new businesses, or it's employees, to succeed.

Freedom has some ugly spots, no question.

But Government is worse.

America was an experiment in limited Government...

today it looks to be like we will see books titled

"The rise and fall of America"

like we see countless other books about failed civilizations.

That's just the boilerplate of right wing fantasy.

Record corporate profits in 2013-

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/03/27/3420092/corporate-profits-record-2013/

The most amazing part is that confronted with facts is that righties will spout the same bullshit over & over again like reciting a religious creed.

Yep, we all need more polluted air, water, doctored food, etc.

Let's not forget the opportunity to have your property taken without compensation or due process (yes there are some instances of that in the US but China is on a whole other scale). Hardcore government corruption, the opportunity to be locked up for expressing your opinions or meeting with the wrong people. The country with the highest number of executions.

Yep, China sounds like a freaking paradise of freedom.

How fucking stupid can you really be Zorkorist? Or are you just that drunk again?

How many times have you jerked it to Atlas Shrugged today? Be honest. Is it in double digits yet? I'm guessing it is.

I wasnt the only one who poke holes in the reasons you dont like the dems. You are a libertarian. They align more closely with the republicans but hate both parties. They are only moderate in your mind though.

On top of that you just spew a bunch of bullshit insults with no meaning. As if that is someone impressing anyone. lol.
The following can be found in my post history here on Anadtech forums

1: Support of bank regulations
2: Support of background checks for firearms
3: Hate for every useless war (so basically everything past WW2)
4: Love for the environment (and not pretend or whiff it like democrats do)
5: Better food labeling
6: disbelief in trickle down
7: Anti-Theist (atheists are pussies)
8: anti-monopoly
9: fast tracks for citizenship

So as figured you have no clue what you are talking about. At least if you would have said Dissociative identity disorder you could have been partially right for the first time in your life. But libertarian.. wow.

The source of all your anger and frustration is you just cannot accept that there are people who are not in one of your compartments. Basically in your eyes, Democrat = good, everyone else gets no tolerance at all. You have made it your mission to move me to the right wing so that you can feel better about your discrimination.

Edit: As we can tell from the post below, you didn't want to read any further cause you are so wrong about it you knew you had no weight. Maybe next time you will save the ASSumptions and stop labeling people especially when it's so wrong.

Well. I'm not going to spend time going through your post history. Infact I only read the first 2 sentences of the post you just made...
