Am I the only one here who questions the veracity of the article? I know it's almost certainly 100% accurate based on the source (according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing), we all know that guy is almost always right on the mark.

Do you have a specific reason to doubt it? The Post is a highly credible source and I haven’t seen any other credible sources disputing it.

What seems like it would be true often is not. We hear through prejudiced ears. Time will tell...
Indeed.
I have trouble coming up with any reason for them to do this.

Only that the story as reported is stupid.

The alleged ban only affects the budget documents, allegedly. While I don't have federal budget experience I do have state budget experience and this doesn't seem like a big deal from a practical standpoint.
Budgets directly affect research grant allocation.
There are specific allocations for specific things. A few years ago the CDC investigated gun violence with negative results of course and the GOP controlled Congress cut gun research funding out from the cdc budget.

If this report is true, its basically a way to try and guide US medical, socioeconomic research policy away from these topics and ideas. If people who set the budget can't use those words, they probably can't accept grant applications from researchers who will use those words in their application. Again this has been done before with congress censoring the CDC from performing any kind of gun epidemiologic research because the CDC showed the obvious (that gun violence kills a lot of americans in epidemiologic fashion, is preventable, and gun ownership has almost no positive societal benefit to counter its costs)

Whats crazy about this is the CDC is about as non-partisan as it comes. I think the most controversial thing they did in recent history was suggesting birth control and condoms to prevent zika and being in support of needle exchange programs. I mean really that is not exactly burning the flag here...

At this point in time I think the best we can hope for is containment.

You know, so the stupid won't spread. I think it's safe to say that the UK and Canada has caught some of it but not this this degree, they might be fixable solutions but the US isn't.

Boomerang just said that the elimination of words was a rollback of newspeak. If anyone here has actually read 1984 they would know that the elimination of words was the principal driving purpose of newspeak in order to limit the range of acceptable expression, just as in the topic of this thread.

You can’t make this shit up. Conservatives are so dumb and so twisted by their own bullshit that they have twisted 1984 to mean the opposite of what it did.

Oh come now fski - You and I both know there is only one political group that will get out the pitchforks and demand people resign for saying words that aren't politically correct.

Conservative idiots just get butt-hurt over coffee cups and Keurig machines. But you don't really see them out protesting college campus' to shut down speeches or demand someone be fired for saying something that isn't politically correct.

Conservative power holders just play it differently, threatening people's jobs & life work instead-

Conservatives are literally demanding that Mueller resign or be fired because people under him said words that aren't politically correct. I mean they are currently whipping themselves up into a frenzy about the whole thing, just turn on Fox News.

Did you forget about Ward Churchill, Lisa Durden, or others? There are lots of other examples too. Conservatives are very comfortable with trying to get people fired for saying what conservatives believe to be politically incorrect things. It's one of the big problems I have with modern American conservatism.

I really do have a problem with people trying to stifle the speech of people they disagree with on college campuses and I think it's a shame that some kids embrace liberal values towards speech so selectively. The problem here is that many conservatives do EXACTLY the same thing as soon as people speak freely in a way that offends conservatives. In many cases their complaints are not genuine appeals to free speech, they are self serving attempts to protect conservative speech.

This might explain her problem with evidence and science:
Nothing but the best and brightest will be a part of this administration.

You must have a whole catalog of stereotypes.
Wait, I'm confused, Should I use a pitchfork or fondue fork? One in each hand? How about instead a pint of beer and a conversation? Violent Coannihilation can maybe be avoided?

Are you fucking kidding me? Joseph McCarthy was a liberal? Satanic Panic? Yeah that was all liberals. Remember when they held sham hearings over metal music? And video games? Absolutely Democrats have also been shitty about various things, but you're straight up wrong believing that conservatives haven't consistently been just as bad about that shit.

And the other thing is, we're finding out that a lot of the issues being raised by the people you and others dismiss as liberal snowflakes, are kinda actually very fucking pertinent. Like sexual harassment and assault. Instead of listening you just tried to hand waive it away as "too PC!"

Conservatives are literally demanding that Mueller resign or be fired because people under him said words that aren't politically correct. I mean they are currently whipping themselves up into a frenzy about the whole thing, just turn on Fox News.

Absolutely. And this isn't a modern conservative thing. They've been doing this for the entirety of our nation.

CDC tweet:

HHS statement addressing media reports: "The assertion that HHS has 'banned words' is a complete mischaracterization of discussions regarding the budget formulation process. HHS will continue to use the best scientific evidence available to improve the health of all Americans."

Idiots.
