Conservative groups draw up plan to dismantle the US government and replace it with Trump’s vision

It's gonna get real ugly if the GOP candidate wins in 2024.
“The president Day One will be a wrecking ball for the administrative state,” said Russ Vought, a former Trump administration official involved in the effort who is now president at the conservative Center for Renewing America.
...
There’s a “top to bottom overhaul” of the Department of Justice, particularly curbing its independence and ending FBI efforts to combat the spread of misinformation. It calls for stepped-up prosecution of anyone providing or distributing abortion pills by mail.

There are proposals to have the Pentagon “abolish” its recent diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, what the project calls the “woke” agenda, and reinstate service members discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.

Chapter by chapter, the pages offer a how-to manual for the next president, similar to one Heritage produced 50 years ago, ahead of the Ronald Reagan administration. Authored by some of today’s most prominent thinkers in the conservative movement, it’s often sprinkled with apocalyptic language.

If the GOP candidate ever wins again.. 24, 28, 32 or whenever...

It would be an error of reasoning and inference to conclude that if Donald Trump is defeated at the polls once again, or even convicted and sent to prison, the MAGA cult will dissolve. That movement, and the larger neofascist tendency behind it, are much larger than any one person. Because of its vast infrastructure and power, the MAGA cult — which now controls the entire Republican Party and "conservative" movement — will almost certainly be taken over by another leader, who may be even more dangerous than Trump. If Trump is finally removed from political life by defeat, incarceration or death, he may also become a legendary martyr or deity for the movement.

Power abhors a vacuum. If Trump leaves the scene, a new Trump will rise. America's democracy crisis is not likely to end anytime soon, no matter how many members of the news media, the political class and the general public would like to wish it away.

Right wing media, is the illness.

It too is the symptom. The thoughts that gave it rise existed before it did, it just shamelessly appealed to those thoughts, which created a feedback loop.

Trump is a symptom, not the underlying cause. GOP belongs on the ash heap of history.

What's sad is the trash heap of history is full of these types, but humans continue to repeat the same follies.

Heritage Foundation is behind all the insane gerrymandering and otherwise voting suppression efforts as well

The Heritage Foundation is a straight up terrorist organization. And they got balls, brains and funding too. This is scary shit.
They also managed to weaken the 65 Voting Rights Act with the Shelby case

Well Trump already warned us this would be a revenge tour.

Bannon: I want to deconstruct the administrative state.

JD Vance: Trump should just fire all fed employees and replace them with loyalists, even if SCOTUS intervenes, he should defy them.

I'm sure there are other examples. Whether it's 2024, 2028, etc...we are fucked.

The 2024 election is the one ahead of us, a lot can happen between 2024 and 2028. I know Trump isn't the actual brainiac (ha!) behind all this, that's just the headline, clearly this scheme works with whoever gets slotted into the GOP role.

Yes, this is why I highlighted their association with all the "wonderful" things Reagan did for the country. Seems like they and the Federalist Society are essentially the real drivers for the GOP.

Of course they are concerned about the spread of domestic terrorism by white nationalists. Their concern is in what's the best way to increase the spread.

Right wing media, is the illness.

Notice how Hannity now has an "audience". Going that route gives the illusion of instant gratification and approval. With his right wing maga audience, Hannity can say any outrageous lie he wants and the audience cheers him on thus giving the illusion that people approve. Just another means of fooling their viewers.
"Defund Ukraine and praise Putin" and the audience goes "YEAHHHH!!!". "Donald Trump is being victimized" and the audience goes "YEAHHHH, CHEERS". "If not for Hunters laptop we would have a cure for cancer" and the audience goes "YEAHHH, CHEERS, YEAHHHH's some more".

This is propaganda at its finest. Adolf would be proud. So proud.

The crap US political system is a big part of "the illness". It's troubling that there seem so little inclination to do anything about that.

[Edit] but, yeah, Rupert's the other half of it.

Ranked choice voting is tough to get out there, since it has the potential to oust people who benefit from our current system.
I've admired the parliamentary style of proportional representation. But yes, you're correct.

Just seems to me there's a weird lack of urgency about addressing the problem.

Three articles over the last few years...was curious if more up-to-date data shows the problem getting better or worse since it was first raised as an issue, but could only find repeated descriptions of the same problem...That last Guardian link seems to demonstrate that the effect has continued to intensify up to 2021 at least. Don't see any reason to believe it will reverse in future.

And the skewed nature of the senate in turn affects the Electoral College that's partly based on the number of Senators. And the Senate also effectively gatekeeps appointments to the Supreme Court, which in turn has become a nakedly-political entity and which has the capacity to facilitate worse-and-worse gerrymandering of state legislatures. And it's all made worse still by the filibuster.

I don't see how, if the Senate issue continues to worsen, the future is going to be anything other than minority rule by elderly rural white people. Which probably means more, and more extreme, Trumps.

[Edit] yet another article, with data on the racial implications

The former party of Lincoln, upon abandoning their morals, common sense and ethics in order to enshrine Daddy Darth Trump as their chosen idol, have liberated themselves of any accountability for their actions. Ergo anything goes so long it goes their way. Along with the deep pockets that the aristocrat class arms these denizen cultists with, their reach is broad and their message is clear: "If they can't win fair and square, they will bring the nation to it's knees and enslave it if necessary." True to form, they're at it with a vengeance for they see the writing on their Wall of Shame. Donnie's Desperados have seized their party and call the shots...well the shots that their corporate benefactors order them to.

It's the Mother of All Scams perped by over 70 million Americans, on themselves no less.

Ranked choice is definitely the way to go. Telling that some red states treat it like a virulent, contagious disease, when they won't even get serious about actual, virulent contagious diseases.

Electoral college has got to go though. A slaveholder appeasement that disenfranchises Americans and failed to protect the country from a demagogue has no place here anymore.

Maybe if the Dems have some real majorities we can see some of these things happen. Would be great to see the corrupt and damaged to hell SCOTUS get repaired.
