Yeah, as a current T-Mo customer, I'm looking at switching to another carrier when my contract is up (or earlier if I can get out of it). knowing that T-Mo 3g phones will be useless if the merger goes through really limits what options I have to upgrade my phone for the next two years.
You might see more 5-band 3g phones like (apparently) the LG G2x.

HTC Aria is now free on contract on AT&T. by the time your contract expires you'll be able to get a better phone free on contract. what is the big deal?

I'm surprised there haven't been more 5-band phones already. I'm a T-mobile user, and while I'm pissed off about the merger, at least I got a Nokia N8 which supports 3g on every band. And yet, all the other phone makers continue to churn out new phones which only support 3g on one carrier.
