Conroe Motherboard Bios Query

Howdy all... this is my first post here so hopefully it is a reasonably intelligent one...

I have read that there are current motherboards that will support the new conroe chip once they are given a bios update. My question is, if there are not any mobos available which will run the chip right from the get-go, will the conroe chip still function in a mobo (possibly as a single core) so I am able to go online and download the bios update for the board?

My problem being that I need a completely new system and my current cpu would not fit in an LGA775 socket in order for me to update the bios.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

There are a [smallish] number of boards available that support Core 2 with no BIOS update. Anything based on Intel's 965X chipset, for instance (DS3, anyone?).

In motherboards that require a BIOS update, they will not be able to boot with a Core 2 until they have that BIOS update.

Which boards are there that have the right VRM for C2D but not the BIOS support?

From the sounds of it I guess I will just have to wait a month or so for a selection of new mobos to come out.

Thanks for the info!
