So far the only decent board i've seen is the Intel DG965SS. But I heard that they don't offer much OCing adjustment or anything of that sort.

Gigabyte also has their GA-945GM-S2, but the comments say no OCing, and it doesn't have firewire built in.

Ugh! Anything good mATX wise comming out soon?

There are no so many mATX boards with built-in firewire:

ASUS P5L-VM 1394
ASUS P5B-VM
Intel DG965SS
Intel DG965OT
Intel DQ965GF
MSI G965MDH-FI
MSI Q965MDO-FI

ASUS and MSI boards should come with modest overclocking options (even manuals are not available yet though). A complete list of Conroe mbs is here.

The Asus P5B-VM sounds pretty good to me and it is the one I wish to get. It even has an eSATA port on the back of it...

Like renethx said, none seem available now, though. :( I'm dying to buy one...

If they release a new BIOS w/ OC options, I think this would be the short term board to get until 965 mATX boards hit.

Over the course of the next three weeks you can expect several Core 2 Duo mATX boards based on G965 and 945G to be in the retail channel. At the end of the month we will have a mATX roundup geared towards SFF and HTPC usage with Core 2 Duo and AM2 boards.

Yeah, the wait is killing me. :( They even have the P5B-VM manual, bios, drivers, etc., up for download...so how long is it going to be before it shows up somewhere?

Hiraki, are you sure that the P5B-VM manual is available? It is not uploaded yet.

Thanks for the link. The link to the manual in the "Map" tab in Download > Motherboard > P5B-VM is missing, but the link is there in the "Manual" tab!

Yeah, I need to glance through the manual. I have some decent DDR2 ram, but it wants 2.1v I think and I've not looked to see if the P5B-VM will have issues with that...

anyone found a C2D G965 board with the following:
> DVI
> Azalia
> Passive cooling
> 16x/PCI/PCI/1x expansion slot configuration

the gigabyte board is close, but no DVI.

any takers?

Well, if you want DVI, all of these can take a ADD2-N card that'll output that (since you'd be using the onboard video).

?

is this like that weird 945 mATX motherboard?

do you get full use of the video features/acceleration of the onboard vga?

Yes. The DVI card bundled with ASRock ConRoe945G-DVI is an ADD2 card (Advanced Digital Display Card). In a sense Intel chose a flexible solution of IGP, the standard VGA + two SDVO (serial digital video out) ports. An SDVO port can support a variety of display types including DVI, HDMI, Analog CRT, TV-Out, but requires a third-party external SDVO device such as ADD2 card or an onboard controller. Unfortunately there is no Conroe motherboard with onboard controllers. Most Merom motherboards come with onboard DVI and TV out, but thery are expensive (near twice the price of GeForce 6150 boards). You can find them in the list I posted in AVS Forum. Intel is pushing MoDT (mobile on desktop) for HTPC users.

Yeah, you have to buy an ADD2 DVI card (about $40!) if you choose a mATX G965 board.

Yep, you'll be fine w/one of those cards. Now if they'd just hurry up and get boards out... ;)
