Yep, it is looking like, for the stores that play by the rules, only the X6800 will be available this week. The Falcon Northwest site has this to say about their Core 2 Duo systems:

Reserve your Core 2 system now!

Extreme X6800 2.93GHz Systems will begin shipping on 7/27.
All other Intel Core 2 systems will begin shipping on 8/7.

Only reason I could think that Intel would do this would be to force the impatient folks to buy a $1000+ chip instead of waiting 10 days for a less expensive solution.

nod

i think the production numbers are lower on the 6800 so it makes sense that it would be available sooner

*sigh* Darth Jobs strikes again... From suing people left and right to discouraging interoperability to pressuring Intel's release dates, he's got worse karma than even Gates...

LOL 🙂))

August 7th, huh? I need my E6600... encoding a file right now and wish it was going faster. I hope the new cheaper motherboards start hitting the shelves pretty soon too. Looking forward to my first major overhaul in 3 years. 😀

This kind of puts me on the ropes. I need a fully functional computer by 8/15. I was expecting to order my e6600 on the 27th from somewhere like newegg but now it looks like thats getting pushed back almost two more weeks. Stupidly I have already ordered a pw5 DH and am unable to return it!

Will I be able to walk into a computer store (comp USA) and pick up a chip on the 7th or is that the date that everyone will be shipping them?

Also is there a chance that newegg will sell them earlier in hopes of customers getting them on the 7th?

3 years? Hey, get in line after me... I have a 4.5 year old Willamette P4 that needs upgrading more desperately than your 3 year old system!

It's looking like Intel is going to let APPLE introduce the first C2D systems... so... at this point, I wouldn't expect anybody (except eBay bootleggers) to be shipping them before the 7th.

(And in many Canadian provinces, the 7th is a public holiday, too... damn Apple)

Watch the news on the 27th. I guarantee you it'll be all the multinational OEM's that announce C2D systems. (not just Apple)

Apple isn't announcing on the 27th; they'll no doubt be announcing on the 7th, which just happens to be the first day of their WWDC. Stevie J. will have his big keynote speech in the morning and he'll have "just one more thing"... a C2D-based Mac.

The reason I'm blaming Apple is that it seems MIGHTY coincidental that Intel seems to be forbidding OEMs and retailers from shipping C2Ds (but not C2Es) until precisely Aug. 7. Why pick THAT precise date, which just happens to be the ONLY logical launch date for Apple's C2D systems? (and I'm guessing WWDC was scheduled LONG before Intel finalized its C2D launch schedule)

Newegg is selling AMD CPUs with free Ipods???

I'm seriously intersted, I want an Ipod

If this is real could I get a link?

I've been on my P4 1.6A overclocked to 2.4ghz for a long time too.. I can't wait for a new computer.
