The new Conroe chips looks pretty good if it's supposed to be better than the Yonah.

I also know there's a Memron processor too, but what's the difference between Conroe and Memron? I tried googling, but never got any clear answer. Do any of you guys know what the differences are?

Conroe is the desktop version, is uses a 266MHz FSB. Merom is the notebook version and it uses a 166MHz FSB. Merom will hit 2.33GHz at ~30-35W TDP while Conroe will hit ~2.67-3Ghz at 65W.

I believe also that the Merom tops out at 2MB cache while the Conroe will top out at 4MB. I just bought a Yonah-powered laptop and I'm hoping Intel stays true to their word and makes Merom backward compatible with Yonah chassis... not that I'll outgrow the needs of my Yonah that fast, though...

Merom is the successor to Yonah with a better performance per watt ratio and also with added features such as Vanderpool Virtualization Technology and EM64T.

Conroe is the desktop version of Merom.

Basically the difference between Merom and Conroe is the FSB. see the numbers below.

Merom
Core Duo T7600 - 2.33 GHz (4 MiB L2, 667 MHz FSB)
Core Duo T7400 - 2.16 GHz (4 MiB L2, 667 MHz FSB)
Core Duo T7200 - 2.00 GHz (4 MiB L2, 667 MHz FSB)
Core Duo T5600 - 1.83 GHz (2 MiB L2, 667 MHz FSB)
Core Duo T5500 - 1.66 GHz (2 MiB L2, 667 MHz FSB)

Conroe
Core Duo E8?00 - 3.33 GHz (4 MiB L2, 1333 MHz FSB, Extreme Edition)
Core Duo E6800 - 2.93 GHz (4 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB)
Core Duo E6700 - 2.67 GHz (4 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB)
Core Duo E6600 - 2.40 GHz (4 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB)
Core Duo E6400 - 2.13 GHz (2 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB)
Core Duo E6300 - 1.86 GHz (2 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB)
Core Duo E4200 - 1.66 GHz (2 MiB L2, 800 MHz FSB)

Where did you get that information? As far as I know, only the E6300, E6400, E6600, and E6700 exist. Also, the first two are supposed to be Single Core and the latter 2 are supposed to be Dual Core...

Yes this pisses me off alot when people can't write Merom's core name correctly.

It also probably explains why Google was unable to provide the OP with a clear answer. :p

Almost as annoyng when people use PCI-X to refer to PCI Express (PCIe)

thats' different though; some people hate mispellings because some people are too stupid to realize that they're ignorant. thats just mho though.

The ones you list are the Q3 ones, the others are expected for Q4 (although the EE might be 3G or 3.3G, Intel has yet to decide), and they are all dual core.
