I have several machines behind a linksys 8 port router, but one of them is having issues with connectivity(machine A). My local area connection icon says 'Network Cable Unplugged' then a few seconds later 'Local Area Network 100 MBps', then a few seconds later 'Network Cable Unplugged' then back and forth.

Im on Machine B right now and its working fine, can access the web etc. (keep this in mind)

So first thing i checked on Machine A was the cables of course, made sure everything was plugged into my NIC and my router securely, made sure to trace the cable from my comp to my router to be sure that its the same one, it is. Then for the hell of it I made sure everything was plugged in from my router to my modem to my PoP, of course it is (no surprise since Machine B isnt having any troubles).

It isnt the cable itself either, I swapped the cable from Machine A to Machine B and from Machine B to Machine A and Machine B runs just fine using that cable, and Machine A still has the same problem.

Checked my firewall too...to make sure everything that needs to get through is getting through. Didnt think this was it either but never hurts to check.

Which leads me to what i THINK is causing the problem.

I use comcast cable to access the internet, you may use it as well so you might know how you set it up allready. Anywhoo for those who dont comcast gives you a little CD with a web set up program on it. You just run it off the CD, input your name, zip, comcast account #, username, and password. Then the CD does the rest, checks your info, reboots your computer, then tries to renew your DHCP etc.

Now get this part (which i never understood myself), originally I used the CD on Machine A and everything was set up fine. Once that was done i didnt need to use the CD for machine B, it just automatically connected. However if Machine A had no power at any given time, then Machine B wouldnt have interenet access. Why is that? Does comcast check your MAC address each time you access the interenet? I dunno, anywhoo I did a clean os install on my machine A one time and while i was waiting I wanted net access so i ran the cd on machine B. I also dropped a 1.3 ghz t-bird into my asus a7v133 to replace my 750 mhz t-bird. My a7v133 has 512 of pc133 sdram, currently its running at 130 mhz fsb, 130 mhz dram, with a clock multiplier of 10x (1300 mhz).

I was also screwing around with my multiplier and fsb settings and i had to clear my CMOS once...maybe my NIC was damaged?

Anywhoo I'm sure this is a really simple fix that i overlooked, but any help is appreciated, thanks!
