Connectivity Loss

Hi Everyone,

My first post on Anand community!!!!

So am administering a small office network and its getting chocked every now an then. It does not have a specific pattern or intervals like time or connections or even PC's.

Now my network map would be like a Dlink Home Router ---> Dlink 20 port Switch--->realtek NIC--->5 PCs (Win7 with static IPs).....the traffic would be like normal website browsing (No games or video streaming or torrents).......Whenever this issue happens I restart the router and internet is back to normal.

Steps tried:

  • Update PC and network cards (Done)
  • Disable firewall or security
  • Ran security scan
  • Cleanup all the clutter in the network
  • No problem with ISP (78 Mbps). Tried to plug in the internet cable (directly) to a laptop...works fine
During issue occurrence tried to

  • Disable and enable network card for all PC's
  • Perform a ip reset renew, flush DNS, Winsocket reset
  • We can access anything over the network
I have read articles about network loop-spanning tree, network chocking, forwarding ports, faulty NIC - network managment etc but is it needed for such a small network to function. Now am planning to scale the network to 20 so am a bit worried how i'll manage the network.....Any help with this regards is appreciated.

which D-link router do you have? I had a D-link DIR-615 and it was a turd (couldn't even stream to my Roku). Upgraded to an Asus RT-N66U and the difference was night and day.
