Connection shows connected, but doesn't work...

Here's what has been happening.

I'm connecting to a wireless router. When I first connect, the internet will work for maybe around 30 seconds and then slows down and finally stops altogether. My Network and Sharing Center shows that I'm still connected with very good reception but it just doesn't work. If I disconnect and re-connect, I'll usually get another 30 secs of interweb.

Any ideas on what might be going on? Any other info that I need?

Going to need to know what hardware you are using. What router etc. It sounds like the problem I had where the router wouldn't authenticate.

Thanks for the reply. I went through and tried a few of those things just to make sure but am still having issues. I'll be honest, I really do not know much about wireless.

Pretty much, I connect, browse for a few mins and then I have to disconnect and reconnect for it to work. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Have you run Ad-Aware and / or Spybot S&D lately?

Or maybe running torrents in the background or from another machine?

OR maybe your security was weak and you neighbors are leeching bandwidth (i.e. thier torrents)?

OR, maybe there's another machine that's getting the same IP address and your two machines are fighting over one address ... try hard-setting your computer to an unlikely DHCP address on your LAN. You can check by opening a DOS window on all your PCs and running IPCONFIG / ALL and checking the addresses.

Sounds more to me like the Lease Time is set wrong on the router.
IP addresses have a lease time, after which they either get renewed
with the same IP or a given another IP Address. Check the lease time
on the router
