Connecting X-fi to an audio receiver...

Here we go:

I am trying to connect the digital receiver to the analog plugs of a X-fi extreme music and weird things are happening...

First of all the Left and Right front channels seem to be reversed: when I test with the creative utility the front channel spectrum is reversed, left becomes right and vice-versa... not too annoying, but still would like to correct it without just inverting the cables..

Now the hard part: no sound from either the center or the subwoofer. I connect the audio card to the receiver via small-plug to RCA cables. I only get sound from either the center or the subwoofer. I tried two different cables with no results.It seems that only one of the two chennls is getting sound from the audiocard. The audio card manual wasn't any helpful.. anybody knows the solution to this headache?

Do you want the X-Fi to send the audio signal to the receiver? How do you currently have it connected? Does your receiver have a multi-channel analog input? If so, you'll need to connect three mini-jack to RCA cables from your card to the inputs in the receiver. Switch to muilt-channel mode on the receiver and you should get sounds now. If you're not getting much in the bass area, you may have to have the X-Fi control the crossover. There should be an option in one of the panels called either Crossover or Bass Redirection. Set that to whateven you need to (around 80-100Hz) and you should have bass output.

Hopefully this helps you some. I connect my Audigy 2 ZS to my receiver and it's great.

For the left + right, how do you know you had it right to start with? You probably just have them reversed. Even if you do have them "right", then the only ways to fix it would be to reverse the cables you connected from soundcard to receiver, see if there's a software option to reverse stereo, or if this might be the case for all sources you may have the speaker wires reversed for your speakers.

Do the surrounds work and it's just the center/sub that's the problem?

Let me explain this to you in the simplest way possible...

Games have no LFE channel.

You will get no bass through a receiver. The only way you are going to get bass is to get an stereo mini (small plug, as you call it), and (I suggest you split the center channel signal) use a fourth stereo mini (small plug, as you call it) to RCA cable where you've split it at the center out, and plug it directly into your subwoofer's inputs, and the internal crossover will work so all the bass in the center channel will be "doubled up" and played back from your subwoofer.

I am aware of no other (at least simpler) way of getting bass with a receiver/speaker combo as you have it. 6-channel-direct means no processing, no subwoofer crossover, so the sub is not playing bass from the mains, and no LFE channel means no discrete sub channel, and all of this means NO BASS.

I was having the problem even with music... I fixed it following the hint from "the J"... I don't understand why the bass redirection and crossover controls are only avaiable under the Game Mode in the X-fi panel... I never left the audio creation mode and wasn't aware of this function..
