Connecting VCR

I have an old VCR and a VIVO card that are very lonely 😛.

Is it possible to connect the VCR to my computer through the VIVO and watch some food ol movies and possibly just capture them at high res to my computer (I have plenty of freespace 🙂 )

I can hook it up with an analogue to RCA adapter but i have to questions?

What would i need to hook it up to my video card?

How do i view the movie? I mean it wont just pop up on the screen

yes im interested in this too, but i was gonna try it with a tv tuner that has video capture because i don't have VIVO.

I've heard from a few people that it would work, they said all I would need would be the video capture software, and all of the cords. One guy said his only concern would be that maybe the quality would be bad when doing VHS movies because of the low res, and that maybe the file sizes would be huge, but I'm pretty sure there is some sort of program that converts video format sizes right?
 
This may not be exactly the answer you are looking for, but I use a WinTv card and have dubbed some old VHS tapes to the HD, then used TMPEG (or whatever it's called) to make my own DVD's. You can set the quality with the software that comes with the card. The Happauge software was decent enough and I had no problems once I got the cables all sorted out. I went nuts trying to copy my Joe Satriani G3 Stereo VHS to teh HD in stereo. I ended up using the component outs on the VCR with an S-Video adapter and an audio line-in to the card. It workes like a champ and the quality is actually much better than I expected.

And yes, I can also watch regular TV with it if I want.
 
You may as well leave it in 480x320 resolution; stepping it up is only going to boost file sizes without boosting picture quality. That said, filtering the audio might help a bit with old movies.
 
Just run the VCR through the Composite or SVHS input whereas the sound goes in the Soundcard input
 
Ok well i only have the block that came with the card (MSI 5900XT-VTD128). Also for soundcard i am using soundstorm on an A7N8X-E Deluxe. So is there going to be an open port as i am using surround sound speakers (5.1 Z-640's).

Also is there any software for this. Like can NVDVD or PowerDVD or something runn this. I am hoping to find a good cheap or free program.
