I need to be able to connect to my pc at home. Is it possible to connect to my pc from a laptop over the phone line and use my pc at home? I need to be able use my internet connection on my pc at home and use some files. Can I see my pc desktop at home remotely like this. If someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

If you mean over a phoneline which connects your laptop to the Internet, then you can use WinXP Remote Assistance (technically a spin-off of WinNT/2k Terminal Services). If you require that your laptop "dials in" to your desktop at home, you'll need to setup Windows XP for incoming dialup connections and then set it up for Remote Assistance. This process would be extremely difficult for somebody not experienced in Windows networking.
