I am tired of waiting for Comcast.net to answer my question. How do I complete the settings on my Linksys router to connect to Comcast.net (this is new) When it was Comcast@home I had to set it up as a static address that they gave me. This did not work when converted to Comcast.net I tried to use the automatic setting it did not work. Would appreciate it someone out there could help. I live in Michigan if that makes a difference.

I had a buddy who was tell me how he did his... He said that he ended up having to hook the computer straight to the cablemodem connection, and setting everything up, and then when he was finished setup the linksys router to the new settings, and change his system to the normal settings again....

I'm not sure if I got all that... but he said it worked great...

My transition from Comcast@Home to Comcast.net went without any problems. But I've had my Linksys for over a year. I believe that Comcast checked your MAC address and unless you are using that particular card, you will have problems. I had some friends with that same issue.

Fortunately, you can spoof that address using your Linksys router. To find out what settings Comcast is issuing you on your regular NIC, try winipcfg. Start Menu -> Run -> command -> winpcfg.

Write the settings down, and then apply them to your router.

I read this yesterday about NAT (Cable routers basically) and Comcast, who will be my provider at the end of the year when they fully take over AT&T:

"Comcast is hunting down 'abusers' of the service. More specifically, anyone using NAT to connect more than one computer to their cable modem to get Internet access-"

http://slashdot.org/articles/02/01/24/1957236.shtml

So I'd be interested ot know if you did call them about setting up your router, what did they say to you about it?

I'm running w2k and winipcfg does not work. Is there another file to use with w2k?

Go to Linksys and follow the instructions. Nothing complicated at all.

I had essentially the same problem with Cox and this fixed me up in short order.

BTW, you might want to pick up the firmware upgrade while you are over there.

Later...

Try "ipconfig", this works in NT anyway.

Thanks to all this was a pleasure reading your responses. I went to the Linksys site and sure enough IT works. Hope this helped anyone else in this situation.

I like how Comcast wants $7 for each additional computer using the internet connection through a router, but they won't support it.
