Connecting to AIM with SBC Yahoo

We had AIM installed with no problems, but took off a couple of weeks ago, as teenager was on all the time instead of doing schoolwork. We actually took it off completely. Situation better, so reinstalled and installation went fine. Now when we try to connect, we get a message that we have no internet connection (we do, are on SBC Yahoo). We have removed again, reinstalled, rebooted and have made no known changes to firewall. I wouldn't know how to check to see if it is behind firewall anyway. No clue as to where to go from here.

Does anyone have any ideas/

I was able to check the firewall on Windows and it does list that AIM is an exception to the firewall, so not blocked there.
