Connecting/Switching Multiple Computers and Multiple Peripherals

Many people here have multiple computers which connect and switch among multiple peripherals.

How are you doing this? KVM switches, wireless, networked device, whatever. Please go through your complete list of peripherals. [the method I am doing too much of is manually pulling connectors out of sockets and plugging them into other sockets...]

Thanks.

I have a Tripp-Lite 4-computer Displayport/USB 3.0 KVM (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014LQM93E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

It's great, but it has some drawbacks:
  • It's fairly pricey
  • It only supports on DP connection per system
  • Some computers, especially those with Windows 7, seem to have USB errors intermittently when using it
  • If you switch from say input 1 to input 2, the computer connected to input 1 will lose its display, which means it may do all sorts of weird things to your desktop and windows. If system 1 has another, dedicated monitor, everything will be pushed off onto it, even when you switch back to input 1.
Still, I really enjoy it. I wish they had a two or three DP per system option with four inputs and that they were persistent, but that would probably be several grand.

I just use Synergy for my keyboard and mouse and each computer has its own display right now. I can pipe each comp into the same display and just switch inputs there. What other peripherals do you need?

1. "Whatever" can not be done.

2. Networking/Wireless is done Auto by the Router/Switch/Access Point.

3. If Audio and HDMI are must you have to get one of the boxes that cost over $300.

Audio can be solved by having one good system on a computer that is used for serious music, for the other computers get the $10 simple deals.
