I have an m-audio revo 7.1 card and just got an hsu powered subwoofer. I was wondering if it is safe to connect the sub-out mini on the sound card to the rca in on the subwoofer with a mini-rca cable.

I'm sure its safe, yes.

It won't be easy to integrate into your system directly through a soundcard however. I mean, if you like overpowered bass, great, but I'm guessing that's not the reason why you bought a linear subwoofer like the Hsu.

You would need an external crossover to blend your speakers and the subwoofer together (the provide equal bassrolloff slopes for both the speaker and the subwoofer) and level match the system so it looks *linear* and not look like two-step stairway.

i just really want to add some bass to my system and not really looking to get a receiver (my desk is already cluttered the way it is). so, my question is how well will the hsu vtf-2 subwoofer match with my swans m200. will i hear "hiccups" when the frequencies change from high to low?

If you play around with the crossover, gain, and phase controls you should be able to get good results.

Unless you have a receiver (or a microphone and some free recording software), it'll be hard to integrate a sub with your powered speakers in a "linear fashion."

But if you want to "wing it", and don't mind the bass being louder than the mains (thats what I mean't by the two-step stairway metaphor, since the Hsu is very linear), then as long as you are happy with it, go for it : )
