First post and thanks for checking in on this with me.
For webcasts I have been listening to last.fm primarily for the last three years with a little USB FM transmitter that broadcasts "whole house".

Wow. Hadn't checked that link in three years either. I bought that exact same thing for 4.99 free ship three years ago. I thought this crap was supposed to keep dropping in price!
Anyway, I love the thing. It's astonishingly clean and reaches out to my two acres, garage, fire-pit, etc, easily. But I've moved my main listening room to within fifteen feet of the laptop that I use this on and started looking for a method to directly connect to my favorite Rotel receiver for even better audio. More and more of my listening is last.fm lately.
I saw this on Amazon.

The description states that "This cable does not transfer data, it is only for viewing images". I'm not sure exactly what they mean by that... images being "data" of course.
Can I use this to connect a laptop to a receiver?
I'm actually guessing that I cannot do so without some sort of driver accompanying the USB to RCA link. Anyone aware of such a method of connecting laptop USB (digital) to old-school receiver (analog input)?
I MUCH prefer the USB port since it outputs pure digital from the laptop (circumvents the soundcard) and allows me to use whatever DAC I want between the laptop and the receiver. That's very handy since the laptop is a mid class HP mini and I would be open to future upgrades.
Thanks for any ideas.
