okay, here's the situation, here at home we have a small workgroup named "blok.dom" (nevermind the .dom that's legacy from win9x with it's workgroup calling a domain etc.) now on my room I have my desktop system that is connected to this workgroup by a wireless NIC (we have a wireless router/switch combination).

recently I have gotten myself a new laptop, and when I use it's Wireless connection to connect to this domain all is happy and works fine.

now what I want to do:

I have a crossover network cable and I can establish a link between the laptop and my desktop computer on my room, however the laptop cannot see any other computer in the workgroup, nor access the internet. in other words, it does not see my router, but it just sees my desktop PC.

I would like it to be able to see all computers in the workgroup and be able to browse the internet.

I can make a short sketch of how i'd like to have it.

Laptop ----Crossed cable---- desktop ~~~WiFi~~~ WiFi Router/switch >>> Rest of lan and Internet

now all I get is:

Laptop ----Crossed cable--- desktop

or

Laptop ~~~WiFi~~~ WiFi Router/switch >>> Rest of lan including desktop and internet

The reason I want to have it working this way is because I use maxivista display software, which makes it possible to use my laptop as a second screen, but eats bandwidth for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same time. and a dedicated cable connection between my laptop and desktop would make this bandwith available. (because two times over Wlan with two computers right next to eachother causes massive slowness of the Wlan and is not very usable)

any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Boran.

There is a way to do this but as far as i know you have to use winXP on the desktop at least. If you do have xp on it you basicly just have to bridge the wireless connection and the Lan connection together. In the network properties you will have 2 connections listed, one wireless and one the lan. if you select both of them and then right click and say bridge these networks, something along those lines, you should be able to see the entire network from your laptop. not sure on all the details but in theory it should work. hope this helps or at least shows that its possible.
