Connecting Klipsch PM's to a Reciever??

Can the Promedia's handle to be channeled through a pro-logic reciever/amp? I have a Sony Home Theatre receiver(STR-790) and the L/R fronts put out 80W each and the rear channel puts out 20W. Would this totally blow these things apart? Anyone try something similar?

I am actually thinking of getting another set for my living room. My Bose 301's are beat(sounding and looking) and we are moving into a new home with a great room that measures 23x16. I want low profile speakers that can fill the room, but have a lot of other areas(furniture, pool table:)) to spend money on that take priority. I could easily drop $1,500 on BA or Bose home theatre cubes/sub, but am looking for a $199 bandaid in the PM's.

Just a thought. What do you think?

The Promedia's have their own amp, so hooking them up to your receiver is not advisable.
Go here audioreview.com and go to main speakers and start reading the reviews. They are all reviews by people that have bought the product. You can find one for the Klipsch quintet, which is the promedias without the amp and a center channel added.

I would strongly suggest this though.

Home Theater System I listened to many speaker systems and receivers and this combo can not be beat. I bought mine for $420 at Video Only. You can get it at Circuit City too. The receiver is full DTS and DD, has s-vdieo switching, and great set up options, and 100w per channel. 5 speakers and a powered subwoofer that really puts out nice deep bass. In my opinion it sounded alot better than the Klipsch. If you read through past audeio review forum posts, most audio guys don't recommend the klipsch's at all.

The only reason I recommended the above system is because I've got it set up in a room that is almost exactly the same size as what your moving into, and because it's best bang for the buck. You would have to spend $2000 or more to beat the sound.

read this thread at home theater forum. For $150 more you will get a lot better sound than those ProMedia's....5 speakers, a sub, plus a dolby digital/dts receiver.

Okay, I am not quite sure what your budget is, so I am just throwing this out to you.

About the Promedia's they are regular speakers which can be connected to your receiver. They are 60W so you would have to watch the volume. Another thing though is I looked on the Klipsch site is that these speakers are rated at 4 ohms of impedence unlike the regular 8 ohms that regular home theater speakers have. This means a greater power draw. So if you turn up too high and you do not blow your speakers you might overload your amp.

Other suggestions:
I went down this road very recently, deciding what speakers were best for my Denon 3300. I think there are three real good options for micro systems in home theater, the rest just suck, honestly. However, if you do not take my suggestions look at the reviews on www.audioreview.com, because everyone else will.

I think that the following micro systems are worth taking a look at.
Klipsch Quintet, Boston Acoustics System 9000 and Energy Take 5. I personally have not listened to the Boston Acoustics set, but have listened to the Klipsch and the Energy.

Realize though that the problem with all micro systems is that they suffer from missing frequencies right above the subwoofer frequencies. This is due to the physical size of the satellites. You will just have to turn up the sweepable frequency crossover to try and meet the satellites.

Klipsch- sounds wonderful for movies however they suck on music. They are great for movies because of the Tractrix horns which produce a very nice crisp and clear sound. However, these horns can be too "bright" for music and the missing frequencies were particularly noticeable in this speaker set while playing music.

Energy- the only complaint about these speakers is a small number of frequencies are missing. However, when I auditioned these speakers and played the THX frequency sweep on my friend's system (he is a professional sound mixer for bands; went on tour with bands such as Korn, Sublime, Rage Against the Machine, etc...) and I could not detect any missing frequencies and he would have detected them long before I did. Played music and the same was true.

BA- as I said I did not listen to this speaker set so I will only tell you what people have said about it. Most people actually prefer this system to the above two. Most people did not notice any frequencies missing. However, they felt the surround speakers to be two week. Also the speakers are not as musical as the others and not as clear. Also the sub they say is a little on the weak side.

Some other considerations:
When you have a system, cables are extremely important. It does not matter how good the receiver and you speakers are. If the cables are not top quality, the system will not deliver clearly.

Anyways, I hope that this was helpful to you and other people that want to get beyond those computer speakers, because most of these are just that, computer speakers, which do not deliver in an audiophilic way.
