Connecting everything through a...

I'm looking to purchase an Onkyo HT-SR600 sound system to go with a new PC and 360. My roommate will also have a regular Xbox for shits and giggles. Coupled with the dvd player we should have a fairly large amount of cables going in and out of this thing.

My question is whether or not I can hook up my PC to the reciever as well to blast music or for when I'm playing games using the Coaxial/Optical S/PDIF. I'm new at the whole dedicated stereo/sound system thing since everything for me up until this point has been included.

EDIT 2: Say I also had 2.1 PC speakers hooked up as well...how would I be able to change from the reciever to the speakers?

Well the SR600 has 2 optical and 1 coaxial for digital audio inputs as well as a 5.1 analog input.

I believe the 360 and the Xbox original both will give you digital optical output so if your DVD player has digital coaxial output you'd want to hook up that way otherwise you'd need a switch of some kind.

For the computer, surround sound from games might be an issue.

I looked at your manual briefly and it doesn't look like you have realtime DD or DTS encoding as a feature on your digital output.

You could hook up via 5.1 analog, but you might run into bass management issues.

If you can live with fake surround sound though, then it's not going to be a problem as you can just hook up either digitally (if you have any more inputs open) or stereo analog.
